miercoles.27.setiembre.2006
yea! as of yesterday, we finally got internet access at our new place!
and tomorrow i go to panama...
sabado.16.setiembre.2006
So it's late and technically tomorrow, but I just finished making homemade brownies for church tomorrow...so we wouldn't have to worry about it in the morning and can go to the feria (farmer's market--absolutely lovely here) instead. earlier today i returned from a lovely adventure to jaco...but my battery is about to die, so i think i shall go to bed, my friends.

domingo.17.setiembre.2006
wow those brownies are really chocolately...so we didn't end up going to the feria anyway porque when we got to the car the alarm went off and my mom didn't know how to stop the loud sirens and my dad was out mountain biking and my mom was embarassed and didn't want to take the car anywhere :) esta bien. next week.
so my weekend...started with carrie and steve's plotting for our three-day weekend for independence day.

hey guys. i'm doing well. i would like to hang out with you though, and have a good talk or something...go for a drive. turn up the music. good music. three weeks now! it seems like it's been a little longer than that, yet it has also flown by...wierd how it always seems that way. time is an interesting concept. i'm listening to some of my old music i haven't heard forever on my ipod...good stuff. and just finished trying to paint a bit. on the way home from jaco i strummed a guitar for the first time in a long time. there's a lot of things i sometimes forget i love. and need to remember to spend time doing in order to...actually know it. learn things i've always wanted to. and actually become a doer of what i love, or lover of what i do. and what better time than now while in costa rica with more time than i'll probably ever have again... -sigh- today, or right now, i am inspired and motivated, but the truth is that i am lazy. even more so in the most opportune times such as now and summers when less is required of me. and unfortunately, this has especially applied in my time with God. for quite some time now, i have pretty much stopped regularly reading the Bible and even my prayer journal. for no real reason other than simply not wanting to or not making time for it (in my pretty lax schedule). and i can tell a difference. in my attitude and such...i know i desperately need to get back into fellowship at some point...and am starting to actually try again...but i still have a lot of laziness to get over, my friends. it's true. i'm a lazy fool. yet the truth is that through it all i continue to fall ever in love and awe of our Lord...but what is love without action? feed the sheep, kid...

anyhow, i am excited about other prospects of hopeful goals as well...here are some of the random skills or knowledge i would like to acquire or develop:
surfing
guitar
painting
ministering
hablando espanol
dance
love
train for a triathalon
reading
writing
develop a strong opinion in politics
see movies i've never seen
keep in touch
i don't even really care to be amazing or anything...just proficient enough to feel that i really know how to...i think i've dabbled a lot in some things, but it seems that as soon as i had one thing down, i stopped going further...

buenas! how have you all been? surviving life and busyness and all? nice job.
i have been well...and here for a month now. wow. this last weekend was campimento de familia...family camp! mis padres y yo went with our church and adopted a blonde sister for the weekend--our friend carrie. it was in the mountains and was muy bonita and a good time...full of jungle mud pit obstacle courses, waterfalls swims, high ropes courses, sports, and dirty clothes.
guys, my mom and i and carrie had a good talk last night up until midnight (which is now actually late for me since we get up so early) and it was just good. dears, we've all got something we think is wrong with us...some just do a better job of hiding or dealing, but don't get discouraged...keep pursuing God...fight it...tell people...and know i love you. :) let's go be girly and watch anne of green gables...
oh, so i never told you about last weekend, did i?
i might go to panama this weekend. with carrie and aaron.
OH, so good news:
we realized that ICE (the telecommunications company down here) may never come around, and so we finally broke down and are going to get cable which includes internet access or something...and they are supposed to come tomorrow i believe...so we will very soon have internet, a cali# phone, and lots of channels (only like one fuzzy spanish channel comes in right now)...we have been pretty disconnected since we got here, but actually, i haven't minded too too much. but it will definitely be soo nice to be connected to you and the world again!

no tengo mucho tiempo

lunes.11.setiembre.2006
So how's everyone been? I've been here for two weeks now. Still no internet. We really like the new place though. We have a little balcony with a nice view of some mountains, our little backyard, and the neighborhood hangout--a basketball court used as a futbol field. My parents feel much more secure since we have a guard 24 hours and love being away from the noise and fumes of Santa Ana Central. Classes started up on Tuesday. I've got a good class group. There are five of us--Carrie, a law school graduate from Minnesota and a friend of my mom's good friend, Amy, who married a Tico...Jessie, a girl from Indiana who is here to work with Young Life with our old neighbor, Ryan...Josh, a surfer from Omaha, Nebraska...Adam, a college grad from Texas...and me! My mom and I ride the bus to school everyday...actually three buses...which means we have to wake up really early. It takes a good hour and 15 minutes mas o menos to get from where we live in Santa Ana to school in San Francisco de Dos Rios, tromping through San Jose everyday. Yep, and my mom really dislikes being late or unprepared, so she tries to get me out of the house by 5:45/50 in the morning...
Which means I should actually get to bed now...
Night.

primera semana...

lunes.4.setiembre.2006
So I have now been in Costa Rica for one week.
Let's see...nothing extremely exciting going on quite yet. Had some neighbors over for birthday dinners...went to Jaco Beach last Tuesday...orientation for language school drawn out over four days--finally over with that...moved out of our condo and into a new apartment over the weekend...
My dad and I tried to surf in Jaco...we weren't very good...but I did get my first surfing wound. Just a big ol bruise, but I'm pretty proud of it. :) I know, I'm a dork.

It was my first trip out of the San Jose (capital city) area, so it was a beautiful drive through the mountains and along the coast. Didn't get any pictures though. We didn't bring the camera as to not have anything valuable to get stolen, but still made the mistake of leaving my clothes on the beach...rrgh, someone stole my lovely boardshorts, flip flops, and a favorite old t-shirt. :( bummer. i was mad at them.

so, i wasn't finished, but we are about to head home back to our currently internet-less apartment, so i will finish later...who knows how much later...and will try to add some pictures...
ciao (did you know ticos say ciao too? i'm not sure if they spell it like that italian way though...)

numero uno

sabado.2.setiembre.2006
So I am starting with blog with some hesitation and actually with no internet access. Yep, we just moved into our new apartment yesterday, and the internet is yet to be connected...due to it being brand new or something. I am hesitant because I have always been a bit anti-myspace/facebook/blog for some reason...perhaps one reason being because I've always been afraid to...show too much. To let just anyone in...I don't know. I didn't even realize it at first. I don't try. Just something is there...holding me back. I try to get rid of it...but I don't know how and it always shows up again...right there.
I think it's time people get to know me. my thoughts.
I'm scattered. It's true.
I may just stop in the middle of one thought and go on to the next...without really finishing anything. OK?
So...it's back to living with the parents. It's not so bad, but I realize that sometimes I forget to...act for myself? I don't know, I just fall back into that slump of doing what I'm expected to without really thinking...does that make sense? I mean, not really though...I'm still completely myself, and in some ways, act much more like myself than other times. I just mean, I go back to the comfortable, the routine of (how it used to be) living with parents. I was just thinking...if we are always concerned with doing the right things, do we forget that we may learn the most from doing things wrong? making mistakes? Not that we should stop striving to do things right...
